Butterfly - a quick 2D crochet pattern
This butterfly also takes less than 10 minutes to make. You can use it as a decoration — attach it to a hair clip or a bag. A few butterflies can also be joined together into a pretty garland.
What you need
- yarn cotton, any weight, any color — for the wings
- yarn cotton, similar weight, preferably black — for the body and antennae
- crochet hook matching your yarn
- scissors
I used DROPS Paris yarn and a 3.5mm hook, and my charm came out about 3 cm long.
Abbreviations
We will work exclusively in a magic ring. We will use: chain, double crochet, treble crochet, and slip stitch.
Pattern
We start with a magic ring — that's the only place we'll be working, just "one round".
Work into the magic ring:
- 3 chains,
- 3 double crochets into magic ring,
- 3 chains,
- slip stitch into magic ring.
That's the first (smaller) wing. For the second — larger — wing, work:
- 4 chains,
- 3 treble crochets into magic ring,
- 4 chains,
- slip stitch into magic ring.
We have half the butterfly. Now the second half, but this time starting with the larger wing:
- 4 chains,
- 3 treble crochets into magic ring,
- 4 chains,
- slip stitch into magic ring.
And the last — fourth — part, the smaller wing:
- 3 chains,
- 3 double crochets into magic ring,
- 3 chains,
- slip stitch into magic ring.
Pull the magic ring closed and fasten off. The butterfly shape is ready 🦋. Now wrap the body with black yarn as shown in the photo.
Done 💛
You can leave a longer yarn tail at the end to use as a pendant string.
