Cat - Free 2D Crochet Cat Applique Pattern

This cat can also be completed in under 10 minutes. You can use it as a decoration — a patch for a bag or even a pencil topper.

What You’ll Need

I used DROPS Paris yarn and a 3.5mm hook, which gave me a charm about 3 cm long.

Abbreviations

We will be using: chain stitch (ch), single crochet (sc), half double crochet (hdc), double crochet (dc), treble crochet (tr), and slip stitch (sl st).

Pattern

Start by making 20 chain stitches (ch).

Insert your hook into the second chain from the end and make a single crochet (sc).

Next, work 11 more single crochets (sc) in the next chains.

Now make a slip stitch (sl st) in the next chain. You’ve finished the cat’s tail.

In the same stitch, begin the cat’s belly. Make 3 chain stitches (ch) and 1 treble crochet (tr).

In the next stitches, work:

• 1 treble crochet (tr)
• 1 double crochet (dc)
• 1 half double crochet (hdc)
• 1 double crochet (dc)
• 2 slip stitches (sl st)

Now we move on to the cat’s head, all in the last chain of the base. Work:

• 2 chain stitches (ch)
• 3 double crochets (dc)
• 3 chain stitches (ch) — this will be the first ear; after making 3 chains, insert the hook into the first chain and make a slip stitch (sl st)
• 3 double crochets (dc) — space between ears
• 3 chain stitches (ch) — second ear; insert hook into first chain and make a slip stitch (sl st)
• 3 double crochets (dc)
• 2 chain stitches (ch)
• 1 slip stitch (sl st)

All of these steps are done in one stitch! Head complete 😁

Repeat the belly steps on the other side of the cat.

In the next stitch, make a slip stitch (sl st), then work the sequence:

• 1 single crochet (sc)
• 1 half double crochet (hdc)
• 1 double crochet (dc)
• 1 treble crochet (tr)
• In the last stitch: 1 treble crochet (tr), 3 chain stitches (ch), 1 slip stitch (sl st)
